Latest news from the adoptive mom of my little girl

Hi.  Mac did really well at the GI docs.  Wow, Cooks is GROWING.  She is 57 lbs…..gained 4 lbs this summer.  Had to talk to a dietician after seeing the doc, then have some blood drawn to make sure she wasn't anemic.  She did REALLY really well getting her blood drawn.  She usually freaks out with any immunizations, flu shots, etc, but they used some "numb it" spray on her arm and she says she felt it, but no screaming or crying!!!! Dr. Hunt and the dietician are writing an appeals letter to United Health Care and faxing it in.  We already sent in our appeal letter.  In the meantime, the dietician gave me some different formulas to try and we ordered some online to use during the interim.

The Latest

McKenna is not experiencing puberty, according to her eleven-year-old check-up which she got recently. She will have to go for a bone density test and depending on those results, may be referred to an endicrinologist.

Update as of July 20, 2012, McKenna IS experiencing puberty!

Backslide

A lot of you know that my birth daughter McKenna, 10 1/2, has had a feeding tube since 2 for her food aversion she was born with and has been in several feeding programs all to no avail. Well, for the last several months she has been in a program at Cook Children's, one that has been successful, the first one that had been successful out of all the ones she had been in. Anyway, I got an email today from her adoptive mom that now this program has stopped working for her for some reason but we don't know why.

Latest News from The Adoptive Mom

Hi. Slow on the eating. Happily for me....Larry has to take her to the psychiatrist on Friday. She has been wanting to meet “Dad” and we were just never off at the same time. He’s a little nervous. Ha.

McKenna had a play date with Catherine and her mom texted me that McKenna ate some of their triple chocolate ice cream dessert. She was thrilled! She still prefers to eat chicken noodle soup and the banana yogurt. Those are her comfort foods I guess. She will also chew up froot loops, fish crackers, saltines, etc...just very small amounts.

Latest from the adoptive mom

"It’s going well....just slowly. She actually does better in the doctor’s office vs home. She is trying LOTS of stuff........everything has a strong taste to her since she’s been eating mainly chicken noodle soup and vanilla pudding. She HATES apple juice, grape juice, but does like weak unsweetened tea! She’s eating lots of those Gerber snacks that almost dissolve in her mouth. She is eating lots of fruit loops and fish crackers."

Update

From the adoptive mom of my little girl:
We have to get up 30 minutes early as the psychiatrist wants her to “eat” breakfast....so we get up at 6:20 and she “tastes” cereal or yogurt. She’s doing really really well....eating 2 pieces of Gerber puff cereal at a time!!!!! And gets fruit loops really soggy and eats one of those at a time. Plus she’s supposed to be trying a different drink every day......She’s liking the yogurt and I got a ton of Gerber snacks to try...they’re pretty mild tasting.
